The gift of friendship

 Hello,

it's us! Finally. Again. After a very long time. But still in time for heartfelt Easter wishes because in Germany we have 2 official days of Easter: Happy Easter and hello to all of you who will hopefully still remember us and drop by to visit our dust covered blog. Well, what are we supposed to say - our human has been very busy with RL stuff... 

Rosey and I were busy too... for example with taking care of the Easter decoration used for this photo *teehee* The chocolates into our tummy and the beautiful Easter bunny scene behind the glass windows of Birgit's cupboard. Some of you might not only have spotted this but have known right away who was the darling friend who blessed us with this special gift but even more with the gift of friendship: Drora! Yes, our dear friend sent us a package for Easter... and take my word - this was the fastest delivery from Israel to Germany in the whole history of the Israeli mail company. Incredible! But this was of course just an amazing side effect... the real incredible stuff was of course inside. Have a look:

THIS is what my sis' and I call an adventure: Trying promising treats without having a clue what's inside. The packaging of the We-are-hopefully-not-only-looking-like-chocolate-bars is complete in Hebrew (apart from the word "mini" on the yellow ones *grin*) so we can only guess what's inside. Sooooooo exciting... while the drops with the squirrel design are almost too cute for being enjoyed. Btw there's a big emphasis on "almost"... *giggle* And of course there was even more waiting in the package:

Just look at these treasures! Absolutely stunning - we are still over the moon. The cute bunny scene which you've already seen in the first picture! The most beautiful poinsettia pots! And a crocheted summer ensemble consisting of straw hat, straw bag and classical "Joe Cool" sun glasses. And we would swear these are exactly the pieces our brother Solly was wearing in one of Drora's posts lately. We are totally convinced that a CSI team would be able to find Solly's DNA on these pieces. *LOL* Thank you sooooooo much, dearest Drora... for so kindly and generous thinking of us, for these wonderful miniature miracles and most of all for the gift of friendship!

Speaking once more in this post about the "gift of friendship" made us wonder... Isn't it amazing how the same word written in exactly the same way can have a totally different meaning in different languages? In English the word "gift" means the present you give to somebody.... or a donation for a good purpose. It also describes a special talent. So positive... but not in the German language, no way. When we use the word "Gift" (and we write nouns with a capital letter) we really need this guy here:

Yes, the German "Gift" is our word for the English "poison" or "venom". However, it's well known that the dose makes the poison and if you're using the right amount even poison can be medicine. And with this (I hope I dare say so although my sister is rolling her eyes) very, VERY clever bridge I'm finishing this round trip of thoughts with the conclusion that a poisonous "Gift" being received in the right dose can become a wonderful "gift" and if given by a dear friend it can become the "gift of friendship" being medicine at the same time which places some warm sunshine directly into your heart. *phew* Okay, I admit it... this was a lot of babble even for me... *broadgrin* But we're not done yet when it comes to the gift of friendship... because some days ago we also received an Easter greeting from our dear friend Ilona.

A very lovely card with touching content for Birgit... and a huge Easter bag with very promising content for me. Oh... eh... Birgit is clearing her throat in the background in that very special way that only she can do... and I swear she's able to cough "Golden Book" so I should better mind my words... eh... what I wanted to say is lovely things waiting for all of us around here...

... except for the chocolate hens as Ilona wrote that these were dedicated to Rosey and me if we would find out which one was meant for whom. Oh, I LOVE riddles with easy solutions... and I love my  strawberry green hen! Ah, soon it will be strawberry season, I am already so excited... sweet, red, juicy and aromatic strawberries... *sigh*... eh, where was I... oh yes... thank you so much, dearest Ilona... many thanks from all of us!

 But there was another very dear friend kindly thinking of us... but these gifts were already received a long time ago and were related to (Editor's note: WARNING!!! C-Word-Alert!!!) "Last Christmas". We received a late Christmas greeting from our dear friend Betsy... and we're saying right away now many, many thanks to you, dear Betsy, for so kindly thinking of us. Thanks from the bottom of our hearts for all these stunning, generous and thoughtful gifts! Btw there's always a reason why Betsy's Christmas greetings arrive late which is her famous Christmas card. And we can already happily announce that we are very proud because we're allowed to add the version for 2024 to our beloved collection which has grown to 13 members now. But before we're going to show team member 13 we're starting with the other gifts we received from Betsy. First yummy treats...

... and next even 3 (In words: THREE) more kits for Secret Books by Robin Betterley. 

This time one Christmas edition and two spooky ones. We all agree (and we hardly ever do so) that especially "The Bats Are Watching" sounds very promising. These treasures would have been more than enough to make our day... but as we already told... the biggest treasure was still waiting to put as in awe. "BiWuBearies on the Blog" proudly presents Betsy's Christmas card for 2024.

As always Betsy's card is summing up the things happening in her life and what she did in miniature during the year. And it's always composed around one letter... this time the small "s" which also stands for "sad" as last year Betsy lost her father. And the first return of this loss is soon to come - be assured, dear Betsy, that you are in our thoughts.

But of course we concentrate on the miniature stuff... anf if we have a close look to the bottom corner on the right side we can discover the most realistic blooming rhododendron shrub ever being built in miniature as well as a glimpse to the miniature Christmas tree in Betsy's fabulous long time project of building a castle in 1:12. And also in 2024 she spent a lot of time painting the stone structure of the castle's walls which is also represented in her picture.

Betsy also continued to paint the ceiling and the wall of the castle's chapel... and whether you look at the photos of the original painting in the chapel at her blog or at their appearance here on this card... it always shows up very well that Betsy is not only an outstanding miniaturist but also an outstanding painter. 

Even Santa's sleigh which Betsy was building for one of her projects which is the Secret Christmas House in 1:144 found its way to this card.

Another section at the card's left side caught our attention - this part shows Betsy in her work space experiencing an earthquake.

And underneath you can spot a section that warmed especially Birgit's heart and made her day... once more the BiWuBearies which found a home at Betsy's place showed up in her card. And even better... not only that the whole Cloud Palace gang is there... enjoying their Christmas tree with snowmen ornaments made by Birgit - if you'd have a very close look to the upper floor you can spot more gifts Birgit made for Betsy: A happy Christmas tree and some funny mushroom hangers... And even the Pegasus made by Birgit is rearing on the table.

It's very special to us that Betsy took the time to add these details... although we suspect she wanted to test us. *grin* Nice try... but we don't miss a thing! *wink*  And before there might come up any rumours... no... Hamish Harry is of course a well behaved BiWuBeary fairy bear and he's NOT and in no way ever sticking out his tongue! That's just the red and white coloured bell he's wearing around his neck - never forget this is an extreme close-up. *smile* And speaking of close-ups... there are even more tiny elves frolocking around all over the picture than usual. Must be because Betsy was buidling some teeny tiny elves too in 2024. Here you can see some of the painted ones:

And it's amazing somehow as in this detail shot there are seven elves. Amazing to us because we are used to Christmas elves coming along in a triple... 

like Einar, Ylvi and Lasse or...

En, To and Tre - who insisted on having the cushions Betsy stitched for us some time ago at this photo as one of them shows  our three little elves (one  isn't visible here as he's covered by Tre's shoulder). And can you imagine our surprise when we found yet another box in Betsy's package... with the most exciting content? Three of the teeny tiny elves Betsy created wanted to go on a big adventure and travelled all over the Atlantic Ocean to find a new home in a certain North Pole project. Please hold your breath... these guys are so tiny that you almost fear that they could be blown away even from a photo by a good sneeze... *grin* 

It's incredible how tiny these guys are... and yet so detailed. Our first intention was to call them "Tic, Tac, Toe" but we have to give that idea up. Believe us, it was only when we checked the next photo that we discovered something we hadn't seen before in a 1:1 view. Very special details touching us very much... and making En, To and Tre very proud. They not only found their way to the cushion on the right side of the bench but also had a deep impact on the teeny tiny elves.

Did you notice? Yes, it's the numbers of their buttons... so we had to find names saying one, two, three again, preferredly in a Scandinavian language. Not easy... "en, to, tre" is either Danish or Norwegian and in Swedish it's complicated with the circle over the a in "en, två, tre" but even more with two numbers being identical with our elves' names. For some time we thought about using the Finnish "yksi, kaksi, kolme" but honestly... Although this sounds cute and funny - "kaksi" doesn't sound too well for German ears as it reminds very much of a word we use for... eh... well... I can't even believe that I am now officially allowed to write it here... so sorry... but we use "Kacke" for "poo" or "shit" and now you know why we didn't want to name any elf "Kaksi" even if it is an honorable Finnish word. Finally Birgit came up with a good idea... she said we should not wander to far away but stay at home. Or in other words - use our own language. Not German this time but our local language which is spoken in varieties here in the North (not only of Germany but also in the Netherlands or Denmark) which is Low German (or as we say "Plattdüütsch"). And in this language one, two, three is "een, twee, dree"... that's why from now on we're dealing with three tiny mischievious elves called Een, Twee and Dree at the home of Einar and Ylvi. My... this means "dree lütte Keerls hebbt bloot Tüddelkraam in'n Kopp"- and we would really like to know how any translator is going to handle this challenge... *ROFL* Anyhow, at the next picture you see three elf triples together with two blogbearies.

And the funny thing is... in English this makes eleven of course. But in German it's (drumroll please): Elf! And who knows... maybe... just maybe... Birgit is going to find a way to really have 11 elves... might be that she's working on something... *tweet*

And no need to worry about your screen... this is just a little teaser for some future post. *grin* And you almost made it through this post - however, a bit is still left to show and tell.  First of all another heartfelt "Thank you" for all those wonderful and thoughtful gifts. And we can't leave without evidence that I did not stop being a gentlebeary while time went by... a lot of time looking at the following calendar pictures. And yes... (and before I get myself in trouble again): Rosey was helping too with the updates of Birgit's new calendar showing pictures of our home state Schleswig-Holstein. 

In February it was a typical photo taken somewhere at our West Coast looking through dunes to the North Sea.

And in March it was our other coast in the East at the Baltic Sea. This is a photo of a peninsula named Graswarder.

And in this month we see the two famous landmarks of Travemünde (a seaside resort being a borough of Lübeck): Germany's oldest lighthouse (nowadays a museum) in the background and the Passat in the front. This impressive four-masted steel barque is now serving as a museum ship and venue these days.

And now to the good news - the end of this long post is near. Did I just hear sighs of relief??? *LOL* But we have still two more photos to show... as a reminder that whatever craziness is going on in the world there are still miracles waiting to be discovered. Birgit was able to spot one of those when she came into one of our rooms and her eyes caught this sight in the bedroom of the Old Witch Tower.

A perfect smiley!!! What a sight! But it lead to the question: How? See, the window is situated behind this wall... so how was this funny reflection ever possible? And don't you ever believe that Aunt Paula was helpful... she only said she wouldn't know and she wouldn't care and she would rather prefer to just enjoy it and call it a friendly ghost showing up. But of course it was no ghost... 

It was the sun's reflection in the Magic Mirror which made the smiley appear! And it's really amazing if you keep in mind that the Magic Mirror's shape is oval while its reflection at the other wall is round. See, miracles do happen... and they can happen anytime and anywhere... you just need to be able to notice them when they drop by. With this we're wishing to you for the remaining days of April all the best and a good start into May - and may you be able to see the miracle gifts of life when they appear. As far as we are concerned we are dedicated to appear here again in May... let's see what life thinks about this... *giggle*

Hello 2025

Hello,

here we are again - with our first post in 2025. We hope the new year treated all of you very kind so far. As far as we are concerned we're starting the new year on our blog the traditional way... which means looking back to the end of 2024. Or in other words: With our annual "Christmas gifts on parade" post! Once more we've been showered with so many awesome gifts from wonderful blogfriends and we really need to share them here saying once more "thanks" to all of you. And although we're doing it as always in alphabetical order we're giving top priority to a very special gift... coming from a member of the BiWuBeary gang. Schepje, the BiWuBeary Snowman living at Ilona's home, surprised both Rosey and me with a Christmas gift from him - while Ilona was so helpful to offer him some space in her package to us. And this is what Schepje sent to us:

Perfect choice, buddy - hartelijk dank! (We expect you prefer Dutch after all these years *grin) And let's not forget that these snowy guys have some wonderful inner values... yummy! And they offer us a good opportunity to show you a funny photo of some other snowy guys which might be quite familiar to some of you now:

Yes, Birgit and her brushes have been busy in the old year. *LOL* And now, ladies and gentlemen, furry or not furry readers of our blog - here's the 2025 version of "Christmas gifts on parade". And this starts (surprise, surprise) with the gifts from our dear friend Alex. Alex spoiled us with a box (looking strangely familiar) filled with all sorts of cute and useful miniatures.

Among them was a cookie plate using the tutorial Alex shared in the Spanish Advent calendar last year. And we even received two more in an extra box. Birgit will definitely use these for Einar's North Pole bakery. Muchas gracias, Alex!

And there was a lovely surprise hiding in these cookies which we did not notice until we had taken the picture: The Christmas tree cookies had faces... these were in fact bearies in a Christmas tree costume! Wait... why does this remind us of someone... hmmm...

Haha, sure... we had to think at once of our dear cousin Chris Kringle! Chris was the 3rd bear Birgit made... and our cousin because back then Birgit used a bought kit. But he's of course a family member and btw for beary No. 4 aka Herzbube Birgit already used her own pattern. But enough of BiWuBeary history... next in our parade is Fabiola who also sent us some lovely miniatures.

Mille grazie, Faby! And with this we're coming to the gifts from Huibrecht who spoiled us rotten. And we need to apologize because the next photo is not doing justice to his wonderful gifts - a beautiful bowl showing nutcracker motifs, green candles, a stunning angel figurine and some very yummy cookies.

But this wasn't all yet... there were also three amazing Christmas cushions in Huibrecht's package... each of them with snow flakes having one red and one green side.

Needless to mention that these are just perfect for the North Pole project. And this will also be the future home for Huibrecht's last gift... and this blew us away. We had admired this masterpiece of needlecraft at his blog some time ago... and we still can not believe that our dear friend gave this to us.

In German we call this special sort of needlecraft "Hardanger"... and it is beyond our imagination that somebody is able to do this in miniature. But Tineke Beiler, the miniature artist who made this amazing piece, sureley can! It's incredible... thank you so much for all your wonderful gifts and for so kindly thinking of us, dear Huibrecht. And we're staying somehow in the Netherlands as we're coming to the gifts from our dear friend Ilona... who already sent us her package in November because it contained not only the Christmas gifts from Ilona and Schepje but also gifts for Sinterklaas and all Advent Sundays. This was quite a big pile back in November... being as lovely as it was promising and in my case very tempting.

And yes, I earned myself another sermon from Birgit with the topic "Opening gifts who are marked with clear instructions when to be opened before the dedicated date will put you on Santa's Naughty List forever without any chance of being granted parole". *shriek* Some risks are too serious so I decided to follow her *ehem* advice... even more as I did not want to risk another sermon about "Everything is having it's own time" and/or "Advent means literally arrival so we need to wait for the certain days to arrive"...so I waited... though it was hard... very hard... but totally worth because the reward for patiently waiting for opening time at Dec 1st aka Advent 1st was this VERY yummy Advent calendar. 

What a great companion during the Season! But this was just the start... we received Sinterklaas himself (well, somehow *grin*) who brought some yummy chocolates with him, a very soft towel with a snowman motif on, a mailbox for letters to Santa (and I suppose I will use them for many letters beginning "Dear Santa, it's me again... Fluby... and I really can explain..."... *sigh*), the most beautiful suncatcher showing a kingfisher and a small mysterious bag. Btw kingfisher gifts are a running gag between Ilona and Birgit because in Germany we believe it brings luck to spot a kingfisher. *smile*

But there was more to come... a wonderful kit for building a decorated book box with a snowman motif on the outside (somehow a secret book in real size) and of course we also unpacked the bag.

Believe us, what was inside this bag blew us away:

One of the famous three little pigs, Fifer in this case... and this is not just any miniature... it's a bronze miniature by Robert Olszewski. This left us speechless... and so did the gift we received from Ilona for Christmas coming along with a very personal message which caused some eyesweat because it was as touching as thoughtful.

But this message is private, sorry! *grin* Thank you sooooooo much, dearest Ilona! And now we're jumping from the Netherlands to Spain and to our dear friend Pilar... another wonderful lady who knew exactly how to make us happy:

With a very promising box of a delicious Spanish treat and another very promising box in which we supposed stunning miniature surprises made by Pilar. And that's exactly what we found inside... stunning miniatures!

In a lovely crate Pilar had stored all sorts of dishes, plates and bowls she recently made... and being the thoughtful friend she is she supposed that the dark green ones would fit perfectly into Einar's red and white kitchen. Well guessed, dear Pilar! And the two Christmas journals as well as the decorative ornament with a lovely Christmas mouse are so awesome that we need to show a few more details of them.

Pilar even managed to add some highlights with glitter! Incredible! And I can tell you that both Ylvi and Lasse already claimed one of those for their purposes. Muchas gracias, dear Pilar... also in the name of our elf family. And we're staying in Spain coming to yet more incredible gifts being sent to us by our dear friend Rosa Maria.

Yummy Spanish treats and very promising boxes. In the green box we found all sorts of wonderful miniatures, all homemade by Rosa Maria.

Everything so useful and so beautiful... we hope you're able to spot the teenytiny birds which we have placed on top of the columns. And inside the red bag and the tin bauble we found two very special treasures, both completely created by Rosa Maria.

Especially the deer figurine blew us away! Pictures can't do justice to this amazing piece. Muchas gracias, Rosa Maria! And now we're hopping over to Italy again for the wonderful gift from our dear friend Rosanna... sadly another one we lost to Instagram. What an amazing miniature book by Sarah Walkley - filled with impressive projects, plenty of inspiration and even a lot of "How to". Thank you so much for this stunning gift, dearest Ro! And to our biggest surprise we received another package for Christmas from our friend Tinchen - you may remember she already surprised us at the end of November with this fabulous crime story Advent calendar so we weren't expecting anything more... but in fact we received more... next to homemade yummy cookies and plenty of chocolate our new edition of the lovely calendar by Peter Schnellhardt - a calendar we receive since years from Tinchen and which we cherish very much.

A calendar, marzipan, beautiful paper clips in the shape of butterflies and a box with paper notes all with a lovely quote with the topic "What's really important". And the calendar's front says (in a very free translation) "Be prepared for everything - even for the good". Well, we've been prepared - and it turned out to be really good, that's for sure! Vielen lieben Dank, Tine! And Ulrike too did not forget us - but this was a package which we opened with a bit of tension as there were clattering sounds in it when we took it out of the shipment box. We've been a bit afraid that something might have been broken on the way and these worries got stronger when we had freed the gift from the wrapping paper... accompanied by lots of "ring" and "clang" sounds *gulp*

A beautiful mug with a Christmas mouse motif in a gift box came to sight. But regarding the sounds we were really afraid there was something broken. So we opened the box and... well... be prepared for a Christmas Miracle:

The best reasons for "ring" and "clang" sounds ever... this was stuffed with chocolate balls!!! What a relief... and what a joy! We were so happy that Rosey and I tested right away the quality of the mug.

Hey, we still got it and we know what to do! Yeah!!! Once a professional mug climber, always a professional mug climber. *LOL* Vielen Dank, liebe Ulrike! And the last participant in our gift parade is Véronique, another one who left us for Instagram, sadly we did not find her account. Véronique who lives vegan spoiled us with a pile of yummy vegan treats.

Thank you, dear Véronique. And that was the end of "Christmas gifts on parade" - but we still need to show a photo of all the wonderful Christmas cards we've received. Of course they found a place of honor on Birgit's card holder (which only stands directly in front of the living room's door when a photo background is needed *grin*)

But of course we can't end this first post of the year without the traditional calendar photo of the month. Needless to mention that in 2025 too there are many calendars hanging in Birgit's house... and that I being the smart gentlebeary that I am will never miss the chance to gain me some good points in the Golden Book of Santa. Always keep in mind: After Christmas is before Christmas! And of course Rosey knows this rule too so here we are presenting Birgit's flower calendar for 2025. 

But the January photo is all you will see of it this year as Birgit decided we should present another one from now on. Caution - be aware this is some kind of an educational mission! *teehee*

Let us try to translate the title: "Schleswig-Holstein - country between the seas". Yes, Birgit bought a calendar showing pictures of our home state Schleswig-Holstein which has Denmark in the North, the North Sea to its left, the Baltic Sea to its right and in our South the rest of Northern Germany with the federal states of Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The amazing thing about our state is that you're able to drive from the shore of the Baltic Sea to the North Sea shore in a few hours. We hope we can give you some impressions of our home state over the year and we start - who would ever have guessed - with the January photo... and a riddle for you. Can you guess this city's name?

As kindness is in our blogbearie's DNA we're giving you a few hints:

- It's the second biggest town of our home state Schleswig-Holstein after our capital Kiel

- It's known as the "Town of the 7 towers"... and as "The Queen of Hanse"

- This town still carries the title "Hansestadt" (= city of Hanseatic League) in its official name and in short on every car's ID sign. For example Hamburg, Bremen or Rostock also carry the title "Hansestadt" until today. And what is "Hanse" you may ask? Well, from the 13th to the 17th century the Hanseatic League was a mighty commercial and defensive network of merchant guilds and market towns in Central and Northern Europe. These merchants were extremely powerful, not depending on the crown and becoming extremely rich through trade and trade tolls. The leaders of the town we're looking for were so rich that they bragged with their wealth for everybody to see - in times when salt was more valuable and expensive than gold they used salt mixed with ox blood to create bricks which are colored black. These black salt bricks can still be seen, for example at the exterior walls of the city's historic town hall.

- While mentioning the historic town hall... the whole historic city centre was declared to be "World Heritage Site" by the UNESCO.

- Some world famous people are related to this city. Thomas Mann, winner of the Nobel Prize for literature, was born in this town and lived there until he and his family had to escape from the Nazis. Btw you can acutally visit until today the house of the Buddenbrooks from his famous novel in our mysterious town. And Günter Grass, also Nobel Prize for literature laureate, is related to this city as he lived there for many years until his death. And there's another outstanding man being born in this town: Herbert Frahm who later became one of the most important chancellors of the Federal Republic of Germany and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize... but he's of course better known under his pseudonym Willy Brandt. And if you prefer it a little more up-to-date: Robert Habeck, Germany's current Vice Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, was also born in this town.

And... did you guess it by now? If not... here's a final hint... and that should do... at least for everybody who ever received a Christmas package from us: It's also world's capital of marzipan... and for sure the hometown of Niederegger marzipan. Ah, we know now everybody got it... sure, this picture shows some of the old town core of LÜBECK! *smile* 

And now you almost made it... but there's still one thing left to do. Well, you would not suppose us to skip our most beloved *coughcough* blog section in 2025, would you? But no need to panic, volume 93942 of "And once more many pictures of BiWuBearies in the garden" is very short... for a simple reason: Our garden was covered with frost when these pictures were taken. *LOL*

And NOW you really made it... finally. (Eh, did we just hear sighs full of relief??? *giggle*) Enjoy January and have a great start into this new year!
