Hallo,
... today we continue with building Gertie Gumthrop's retirement home. The next steps on Birgit's To-do-list were the entrance door and the external staircase. We're starting with the entrance door - which was somehow almost finished. But some important details were still missing - one of them being the mandatory dragon eye. Both Witch Towers also have a dragon eye on top of their entrance doors recognizing and announcing every visitor and it was no doubt Gertie's home needed such a special door guard too. And as she already did at the New Witch Tower Birgit once more made it herself - with a glass eye from bearmaker's supply (which is indeed a cat's eye, but we shouldn't take this too serious... *grin*), a bit of polymer clay, colour and some Birgit-touch.

What a relief this dragon eye got to know me from the start and registered me as an "visitor being welcome". *smile* And this is how it looks on top of the door:

As you can see clearly at this picture there was another working step necessary for being able to call the door finally "finished". At the door's base is a bare spot and there's no part included for this in the kit... somehow a bit strange. But by accident Birgit discovered that the posts for the fence of the roof terrace fit in there as if they were made for this spot.

But by accident Birgit discovered that the posts for the fence of the roof terrace fit in there as if they were made for this spot.
This was a true case of luck - not only because the post fits so well but also because there will be no fence round Gertie's roof garden so Birgit doesn't need these pieces. And so the post was turned into a doorstep - of course after getting to know Birgit's brushes. And on top Birgit also made a doorknocker because although the dragon eye notices anybody from far away you should still be polite enough to knock before you enter.
And now the entrance door is really finished and Birgit started to work on the external staircase leading up to the roof garden. This piece was included in the kit:

But Birgit thought this staircase would be a bit too boring, she wanted a bit of magic happening on the way up to the roof garden. And so the idea with the levitating stones came to her mind... and it all started with these wood pieces we call "Lamellos" in German which are usually taken for connecting wood pieces when building furniture.

In the next step they were covered with air-dry clay...

... and afterwards covered with structure paste just the way Birgit is creating her rock walls.

Achtung!!! Actionszene!!! *lach*
And of course I had to do a little test... Watch out!!! Action scene!!! *LOL*

This works really well - and now stuntbear was involved! Next the external wall needed to be prepared... because just among us... a little bit of help was needed to make the stones levitate... *giggle* And so it was once more time for the trusty Aluminium foil...

... und natürlich für einen weiteren Test.
... and of course for another test.

And after this was done the wall was ready to be finished:

And if anyone of you might worry now because there's no railing on this staircase - well, as far as I am concerned being a flutterybeary I'm for sure on the safe side. But even non-winged visitors like for example Rosey can use this staircase without any worries because there's a special protection charm on it - as long a you're a welcome visitor you're safe. But tax inspectors or pedlars won't make it up to the roof terrace... *teehee* And now with the external walls being finished Birgit is able to concentrate on the decoration of the interior walls... ;O)

Good to know that the charm will prevent anyone falling =0P .We call Lamellos 'biscuits' over here. Don't know why because they don't look like any biscuits I've ever eaten =0D I think the lamello stairs are much better than the kit stair and the Dragon eye door is fab! =0)
The dragon eye is such an appealing thought. I wish I had one on my real entrance door but I think a picture of Baalatova above the usual eye will be enough to drive away any unwanted caller.
The "Lamellos" stairs are perfect for Gertie's retirement home, as long as you
and Rosie have fun visiting. Thank you for showing how Birgit did them and for sharing the aluminum technics.
I'm always looking forward for more....
Hugs, Drora
Hello Fluby,
It's exciting to watch all the progress on Gertie's magical home. The dragon's eye looks wonderful and I love your Birgit's inventive idea for the step. The staircase is completely magical and you model it beautifully for us :) I'm glad it has a magical charm so lovely bearies like Rosey can safely visit and it's good that it keeps the less desirable visitors away :) Love and hugs for you all ♥ Vicky ♥
I love the door! Fab work, Brigit! And the stairs! Good there is protection charm for I surely would be affraid of falling, lol!
Can't wait for more of course!
Hugs and kisses from
Lady A., Peevee and me!
Hallo Fluby! It's always so much fun for us to visit your blog for reading your funny stories/adventures LOL :D!! I've never met such a funny bearie as you are before, except for my own BiWuBearie Schepje of course ;). By the way: he is lately complaining about a lack of attention from me and I must say that he's right, but I've a surprise for him in mind, but I don't know if he would like it. Well, we'll see it in about a few weeks ;O!!
I think that the floating staircase is an other fantastic, creative solution of your Birgit, who is doing fantastic work to the retirement home of Gertie. It will be safe, but still I'm glad for the magical charm which will protect you against falling of the stairs.
Do you have seen some wet snow today? I hope not, Birgit hates that sort of stuff, but more to the South there has been some snowfall, isn't it? Maybe, you should take the snow shovel out of the garage, so it will be ready just in case... ;O!
Liebe Grüsse, Schepje und Ilona
So creative and fun, Birgit! No tax collectors or peddlers indeed! :-D Fluby does such a great job of showing your work, especially as a stuntbear. ;-) Great job, Fluby! xo Jennifer

Oooooohhhh, Birgit has really been working Magic on Gertie's House!!! I absolutely LOVE the "levitating" stones!!! The "Action" scene was Great too, Fluby, and it is wonderful to know that friendly visitors will have no trouble on those steps! As usual, the details that Birgit has added to Gertie's door are Marvelous! I Love the Dragon eye!!! What a Fantastic Home this will be! I can't wait to see more!
Ulrike
